A student was “begging for his life” as a classmate allegedly pointed a fake rifle at him last week during a prank at the Moody Bible Institute on the Near North Side, according to Chicago police.
Joshua Losey, of Galesburg, was charged with aggravated assault with a replica firearm and disorderly conduct with the threat of violence, death or bodily harm at school, court records show.
He was ordered to be released as he awaits trial, according to court records.
Around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22, the 18-year-old student had just left his dorm room and entered the 12th floor stairwell of the campus at 809 N. Wells St. when he noticed Losey, another 18-year-old student whom he shared a class with allegedly dressed in all black with a ski mask on, according to police reports.
Losey then allegedly pointed a fake rifle at the student and gestured for him to get on his knees.
“Please don’t shoot me, I am unarmed,’’ the student said, according to the reports.
After the encounter, the student warned friends and the front desk of a possible active shooter, authorities said.
A witness spoke with responding officers and provided video of Losey walking around with the rifle, according to police reports.
Losey was arrested on the 15th floor near his dorm room, police said. The rifle was found in a suitcase in his room and the ski mask was on his desk.
Further investigation determined the firearm was a replica, police said.
Losey’s next court date was scheduled for Thursday in Skokie.
