Bill Belichick Not Elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame Despite Six Super Bowl Wins

Bill Belichick’s résumé reads like a Hall of Fame lock. Six Super Bowl titles, nearly 25 years with the New England Patriots, and a career that reshaped the modern NFL. And yet, when the Pro Football Hall of Fame had to name their 2026 picks, his name wasn’t on it.

The legendary coach was not elected in his first year of eligibility, despite being the lone finalist in the coaching category, according to ESPN, who reported the news on Tuesday, January 27. Belichick failed to secure the required 40 of 50 votes, meaning his wait for Canton will continue.

The decision surprised many around the league. Beyond his six championships, the 73-year-old  was named NFL Coach of the Year three times, selected to the league’s All-Decade Teams for both the 2000s and 2010s, and honored as part of the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. Notably, every other coach on that list is already enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

With 333 total wins, including the postseason, Belichick parted ways with the Patriots after the 2023 season and has since taken on a new challenge as head coach at the University of North Carolina. When the Hall of Fame shortened its coaching eligibility window from five years to one in 2024, many assumed Belichick’s induction was imminent. Instead, he won’t be eligible again until at least 2027.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft, whose relationship with Belichick was often publicly strained, is a first-time finalist in the contributor category. ESPN noted it remains unclear whether Kraft received enough votes to be included in the 2026 class, which will be officially announced February 5 at the NFL Honors ceremony in San Francisco.

Off the field, Belichick has continued to attract attention for reasons beyond football. His relationship with cheerleader Jordon Hudson has sparked months of debate, and Hudson has made it clear she’s unfazed by the scrutiny.

In a New Year’s Eve Instagram post, the 24-year-old shared an post from a year earlier that read, “Nothing changed for us in 2024 except for ‘public knowledge’; yet, somehow everything changed,” later adding, “4th calendar year; Going strong. I can’t wait to take punches for you in 2025.” She seemingly added on, “Keep swinging, Keyboard Warriors,” and “Your illusion of righteousness only fuels my authenticity,” in very fine print.

Belichick previously defended Hudson after she interrupted his CBS Sunday Morning interview earlier in 2026, saying they share a “personal and professional relationship.”
