Chicago officials gave city residents some warm thoughts to help get them through a bitter winter blast Tuesday, announcing dates for the city’s iconic summer festivals, but there was at least one change in the schedule that won’t go unnoticed.
After years of moving the Taste of Chicago to the fall, it appears the city’s foodie favorite is returning to its usual time slot in July.
In 2023, the festival shifted to September to accommodate the inaugural NASCAR Chicago Street Race. Prior to that, the long-standing culinary celebration occurred in early-to-mid July.
For 2026, the festival will return to July, taking place July 8-12.
According to the city, 2026 will bring back beloved staples like the Chicago Blues Festival and Chicago Air & Water Show, alongside some of the most popular farmers markets and free outdoor concerts.
“Chicago’s festival season is a celebration of who we are as a city. We are creative, diverse, welcoming and full of life. These events bring our neighborhoods together, lift up local artists and businesses, and invite the world to experience the energy that make Chicago an undeniable cultural destination,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement. “From free music and dance to legendary food and cultural festivals, this season reflects our commitment to joy, access and opportunity for all.”
