ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Bitter cold and wind will be the main weather story into the weekend. Temps in the teens and feel like windchills will be near and below zero through the end of the week. Gusts today 20-30mph will also cause blowing snow and may impact north-south roadways with slick spots. New snow today will be light with mainly just a dusting, but a couple inches possible west of Rochester for Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming Counties. Lake effect snow will get better organized over Lake Ontario this evening and may briefly impact areas near Rt. 104 with an inch or two. Heavier squalls will impact areas between Sodus and Oswego into Wednesday morning with heavier amounts possible.
Cold weather Wednesday into Thursday with a few scattered snow showers. Tracking an arctic front later Thursday that will bring even colder weather into the region on Friday and local lake effect snow south of Lake Ontario. Temps in the single digits and windchills well below zero expected to end the week. Snow showers into Saturday with all eyes on the coast for possible large storm. At this time that storm threat is looking well east of Rochester but will monitor closely. Groundhog Day is coming up next Monday and temps may ease closer to 30 degrees next week.
