Egypt moves to implement requirements for 2nd phase of Gaza peace plan

Egypt is exerting high-level efforts to ensure the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza Strip peace plan, amid international and UN praise for Cairo’s role as a cornerstone of regional security and stability.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full support for the mission of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, as a temporary transitional body tasked with managing the daily affairs of Gaza’s residents, paving the way for the Palestinian National Authority to resume its functions and responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.

    Latest developments in Gaza

During a phone call with the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nikolay Mladenov, Abdelatty called on ensuring the unimpeded and sufficient flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

He also emphasized the necessity of providing a safe environment for humanitarian organizations to operate and ensuring the continued flow of supplies.

Abdelatty also spoke by phone with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing the latest developments in Gaza and Sudan.

The Foreign Minister urged to complete the implementation of the second phase of the aid package and launch the early reconstruction process based on a comprehensive approach that addresses the needs of the population in the Gaza Strip.

    Deteriorating situation

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) issued new warnings about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Palestine, noting that more than 1,800 settler attacks had been recorded, leading to the displacement of more than 100 Palestinian families from Bedouin and pastoral communities in the central West Bank within two weeks.

Hamas said that Israel’s displacement of 15 more Palestinian families from the Shlal al-Auja community north of Jericho, following the previous displacement of 94 families from the same area, is a “systematic process of uprooting” aimed at emptying the land of its original inhabitants.

Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi added in a statement that what is happening in the Shlal al-Auja community is part of an organized Israeli policy based on harassment, intimidation, confiscation, and demolition.
