The NBA rumor mill is running on overtime, but any real transactions are still waiting to be called into the league office. Chicago Bulls vets Coby White, Nikola Vučević, Zach Collins, and Kevin Huerter have all been prime candidates to be moved ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, yet with less than two weeks to go, even the faintest whispers are starting to feel more like wishful thinking than certainty.
A wave of recent reports has centered around Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and Tre Jones, with interest reportedly coming from teams like Minnesota and offers being floated to franchises such as the Pelicans. However, given Ayo’s current level of play and Tre Jones’ injury situation, it appears that White may be the only guard truly still on the table. A new trade report seems to echo that sentiment.

According to Evan Sidery of Fobres, four teams are reportedly interested in Coby White: the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sidery is viewed as one of the NBA’s more aggressive rumor-mongering insiders, but this report does line up with what we know about these specific teams’ current situations and roster needs.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) January 24, 2026These four teams share one thing in common: they’ve all underperformed relative to expectations this season. Each currently sits in a play-in position, with Orlando and Minnesota holding the seventh seeds in their respective conferences, and Atlanta and Los Angeles occupying the tenth seeds. Every one of these teams feels pressure to make a move, albeit for different reasons.
With that in mind, here’s what each team would be looking for — and what Chicago could potentially get in return — if this trade rumor ends up materializing.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are the only team that we know for sure has inquired about Coby White, along with the other guards Chicago has made available. They just lost to the Bulls in a game where White led the team with 22 points — more than enough to justify another call.
At full strength, Minnesota has been rolling out lineups without a true point guard. Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo are listed as the guards, while the offense is largely dominated by Edwards and power forward Julius Randle, who both handle the ball a ton and generate most of the scoring opportunities.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) January 23, 2026That’s where the interest in White becomes slightly misplaced, as he isn’t a traditional point guard either. Still, he’s probably the closest thing they can realistically acquire. White is averaging roughly five assists per game to go along with 18 points per night. He would instantly become one of the Timberwolves’ best guards and could inject much-needed offense into some of their more defense-heavy lineups.
As for a potential return, the framework likely starts with former top-ten pick Rob Dillingham, plus salary filler and possibly a late first-rounder or a second-round pick.
Orlando Magic: Desperate for 3-Point Shooting
The Orlando Magic are in a funny position. Last season, they were the worst team in the league at shooting from behind the arc. That’s why, in the offseason, they paid a premium to get Desmond Bane in the door — a superstar-level haul for a borderline All-Star player, purely because he could shoot threes.
With Bane on the roster, the Magic are no longer dead last among the league’s 30 teams. They’re now 28th. So… yeah. Still not good. You could point to injuries and availability issues with key players, but none of that actually fixes the core problem they’ve been desperately trying to address.

— Lev Akabas (@LevAkabas) January 12, 2026Coby White, meanwhile, is a proven three-point shooter, hitting 37 percent on six attempts per game over his career. In his last three games alone, he’s knocked down 16 threes—more than Orlando’s starters have combined for over their last two games. Adding White would also give the Magic some much-needed guard depth, especially with players like Jalen Suggs missing significant time this season due to injury.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) January 19, 2026If Orlando were to make a move for Coby White, the return would likely center around a young piece such as Jase Richardson, Noah Penda, or Jett Howard, along with a contract to make the money work.
Atlanta Hawks: Desperate for Depth
Some considered the Atlanta Hawks to be the winners of the offseason based on the moves they made. They brought in Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kristaps Porziņģis to pair with All-NBA guard Trae Young, MIP and All-Defensive team standout Dyson Daniels, former No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher, and likely 2026 All-Star forward Jalen Johnson, a young player returning from injury. On paper, it looked like a serious foundation.
Halfway through the season, though, almost everything has gone sideways. Young is off the roster, Porziņģis has barely seen the floor, Daniels has taken a step back, Risacher appears to be deep in a sophomore slump, and Alexander-Walker — who was brought in for bench depth — is now starting. Meanwhile, Jalen Johnson has emerged as the clear star of the team. Safe to say, this isn’t how Atlanta envisioned the season playing out.
That said, the Hawks are also the only team this year to actually pull the trigger on a major trade so far, sending Trae Young to the Washington Wizards in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. The move had all the markings of a salary dump, but it didn’t feel like the final step. Atlanta doesn’t own its own pick this year, which removes any real incentive to tank.

— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) January 8, 2026They briefly had their hat in the Anthony Davis sweepstakes, but that door has since closed, leaving them circling back into the Coby White market. If the Bulls were to move White to Atlanta, the return would need to be meaningful — ideally involving either Risacher or Asa Newell.

The Los Angeles Clippers are another team with no real incentive to tank, largely because they don’t own their first-round pick next season. Still, the way they opened the year, sitting near the bottom of the league with a 6–21 record, would’ve had you thinking otherwise.
Since then, though, things have flipped. The Clippers have won 14 of their last 17 games and now find themselves in position to sneak into the NBA playoffs. The problem is the roster itself.
It’s literally the oldest in NBA history, and with age comes durability concerns. This team badly needs an injection of youth.
The LA Clippers officially have the oldest team in NBA history with an average age of 33.2 years old, they surpassed the 2000-2001 Utah Jazz byu/Thanos_SlayerCongSan inNBATalkNot 19- or 20-year-old projects, either. They need players in their prime right now. Someone like Coby White fits that bill perfectly and could help keep the momentum going.
That said, I don’t love any trade package the Clippers would realistically be willing to offer. The only meaningful draft capital they control doesn’t come until 2030. If I’m negotiating with Los Angeles, those future picks are the priority, and frankly, I’m not interested in much else.
