Before we get into the nitty gritty of DJ Moore trade chatter, I need to be clear about one thing at the top of this post. I am not advocating a trade of DJ Moore. We are way too early in the offseason process for me to feel strongly one way or another about Moore’s future in Chicago. I’ll need to do some deep diving into his role, fit, and future before I take a hard-line stance one way or another. But with that being said, I know that Moore’s name will undoubtedly come up in trade conversations.
Over at Pro Football Focus, Bradley Locker wastes little time in assessing which players could be trade chips this offseason. As you might expect, DJ Moore finds his name on a list of 15 trade candidates going into the 2026 NFL offseason. This might be the first such post this year where Moore gets name-checked as possibly being on the move, but I do not believe it will be the last time we see an NFL pundit offer up that idea.
Is Bears receiver DJ Moore a trade candidate?
This is what Locker had to say about DJ Moore as someone who could potentially be on the move:
Moore was elite after being traded from Carolina to Chicago, garnering an 89.0 overall PFF grade in 2023. But in the two years since, that number has dwindled to 73.5, including a 72.8 PFF receiving grade. The 2025 season was a bit of a trying one for Moore, who recorded a career low in yards per route run (1.24) with his highest drop rate (4.7%) since 2021. On top of that, questions surrounding his route-running effort — including against the Rams in the playoffs — continued to populate.
Understandably, the Bears may not want to fracture a receiving group that ranked 12th in PFF receiving grade this year. But with Moore due an inflated $28.5 million against the cap while grading out as Chicago’s fourth-best receiver, that value doesn’t seem to equate. Perhaps the Bears will give the 28-year-old a fresh start elsewhere as they roll with a younger and cheaper room.
That DJ Moore might not be on the Bears next year might be a tough pill to swallow for some folks. Moore was the headliner when Chicago made that blockbuster trade with Carolina in March 2023. And it isn’t like he has performed poorly during his time with the Bears. Heck, I’d argue that his legacy as an all-timer in Bears lore is secure with not one, but TWO game-winning touchdown catches against the Packers — including one that eliminated Green Bay from the postseason. It might sting to dump a certified Packers killer in a trade. However, I can understand where Locker is coming from when he makes the connection he does.

And on the other side of the coin, I know we will see what it might look like if Chicago rebuffs trade offers and keeps Moore around for another season.

All things considered, I can see there are real challenges trading Moore and a contract that includes a $28.5 million cap number that projects to eat up 9.5 percent of the Bears’ cap next offseason. However, if they do move on from Moore in a trade, the team could create $16.5 million in cap space. Althought, it would come with a $12 million dead money hit. Again, this is a part of a larger conversation for another day. But I just wanted to throw that out there as an acknowledgement as the trade chatter begins.
