What each Premier League club must do before the transfer window closes

Transfer deadline day is fast approaching, with Premier League clubs running out of time to add reinforcements in the winter window.

Whether teams are part of the title race, chasing a European spot, or fighting for top-flight survival, a successful January can make all the difference.

That fact will not be lost on managers, recruitment departments, and club chiefs across the league, who will be working hard to get deals over the line before the window slams shut on Tuesday 3rd February.

So, with less than a fortnight to go, what does each of the 20 Premier League teams need most? RadioTimes.com highlights every top-flight club's transfer priority...

    Arsenal – Re-stock the... arsenal

Though Arsenal are on course to win their first Premier League title in two decades, the Gunners could do with adding another attacking weapon to their arsenal to help them get over the line.

Viktor Gyokeres has struggled in his first season in the top flight, Gabriel Jesus hasn't offered much in terms of competition, while on the flanks, Bukayo Saka hasn't reached the heights of previous campaigns, and others are also failing to fire.

Ethan Nwaneri looks set to join Marseille on a temporary deal, which may create space for Mikel Arteta to make a loan signing of his own.

Donyell Malen's sale to Roma leaves Aston Villa short of forward options, with Evann Guessand the only real competition for Ollie Watkins, who has not been at his best this term.

The loan market proved vital for the Villans last term, with the additions of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio helping them to finish the season well, and it could help Unai Emery add some attacking depth.

Bournemouth – Find Antoine Semenyo 2.0

Losing a player of Antoine Semenyo's calibre is a major blow for Bournemouth and drafting in someone to help fill the gap has to be their top priority before the January window closes.

Andoni Iraola has made it no secret he believes the club "need to sign a winger" and revealed they were "doing their homework" in their search.

Leicester City's Abdul Fatawu and Brazilian teenager Rayan Vitor have been touted as two potential targets, which suggests the Cherries will be looking for potential rather than an immediate impact.

    Brentford – Hold tight

Brentford have done a phenomenal job of succession planning in attacking areas, with the success of Igor Thiago and Kevin Schade this season helping the Bees to forget about the former favourites sold in the summer.

The pair are bound to attract attention in the final week of the window – with Aston Villa, Newcastle and Spurs reportedly sniffing around – but the West Londoners must rebuff any approaches to give Keith Andrews's side a chance to finish off a fantastic season with a flourish.

Brighton are famed for their success in the transfer market and Fabian Hürzeler's current squad could do with a little fine-tuning this month.

An athletic and powerful defender, who is capable of filling in at both centre-back and on the right of the defence would be an excellent addition for the Seagulls.

    Burnley – Goals, goals, goals!

Scoring goals has been an issue for Burnley this term, with only bottom-club Wolves and relegation rivals Nottingham Forest finding the net less than the Clarets in the Premier League.

It's a problem that the Turf Moor outfit simply have to address – either by signing a new centre-forward or creative midfielder – if they are to stand any chance of avoiding relegation back to the Championship.

Boring as it may sound, Chelsea's priority before the end of the winter transfer window should be to free up some space in what is a bloated squad.

While Axel Disasi looks set to get another chance under Liam Rosenior, chief among those that the new boss should look to move on is high earner Raheem Sterling.

Crystal Palace – Offer hope and a centre-back

Marc Guehi's departure leaves a hole in the Crystal Palace backline that they'll be keen to fill before the January transfer window ends.

The money from the sale of their former skipper to Man City should help them land a replacement, and Fenerbahçe defender Jayden Oosterwolde has been named a potential target.

Everton's biggest transfer priority has been clear for some time now: they need a new No. 9. Thierno Barry and Beto are simply not Premier League quality – as their combined goal tally of six this season proves.

David Moyes may well get his wish, with Romelu Lukaku's return and a swoop for Sunderland's Wilson Isidor among the solutions touted.

Fulham – Ignite a spark up front

As impressive as Fulham have been under Marco Silva, the West Londoners still look toothless going forward at times and would benefit from some extra attacking bite.

The links to out-of-favour Man City winger Oscar Bobb are promising and could make for an exciting end to the window at Craven Cottage.

Leeds United have rallied over the past month or so but they cannot afford to rest on their laurels and should act to strengthen their survival bid.

Beyond Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson, and Lukas Nmecha, the Whites lack attacking quality in the final third and that should be their focus in what is left of the winter window.

Liverpool – Cover (without spending another £400 million)

Liverpool are short of cover at centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez their only senior options at the heart of the backline, which leaves them an injury or two away from disaster.

19-year-old Giovanni Leoni only joined in the summer but he's out until next season due to injury, as a result another central defender should be sought before the transfer deadline.

Man City have had an excellent window already, adding in-form forward Antoine Semenyo and centre-back Marc Guehi to Pep Guardiola's ranks.

The priority now should be to trim the squad and perhaps raise some funds by offloading one of their out-of-favour wide attacking options, such as Oscar Bobb or Savinho.

Manchester United – Develop a spine

Though Kobbie Mainoo is back in the offing and Casemiro is enjoying quite the Old Trafford swansong, Man Utd are still short of options in the midfield, particularly now Bruno Fernandes has been moved back into the number 10 role.

Replacing Manuel Ugarte, who has proven to be a poor signing, should be top of the agenda but the club chiefs may not want to splash the cash while interim boss Michael Carrick is at the helm.

Fabian Schär's injury leaves Eddie Howe short at the back and means that signing a centre-back for the future in the January window would make a lot of sense – allowing the Mags to succession plan and solve a short-term issue.

Lecce's Tiago Gabriel is reportedly a target for the Tyneside club and would help to add some more youth into what is an aging squad.

Nottingham Forest – Inspire the resurrection of Chris Wood (or sign a new striker)

Nottingham Forest need goals. The Reds are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League this season and have desperately missed injured striker Chris Wood.

Summer signing Igor Jesus has scored just once in the league and, with the relegation battle intensifying, adding more forward firepower may keep them up. Towering Napoli forward Lorenzo Lucca – surely Sean Dyche's dream – appears to be an option they're exploring.

Sunderland – Fight off the vultures

The return of players from the Africa Cup of Nations will feel like a raft of new signings for Regis Le Bris and Sunderland.

The Black Cats have been outstanding this season but that will only raise interest in a number of their standout performers, with elite teams circling overhead. Keeping hold of their best players until at least the summer has to be a priority.

Tottenham chased Man City winger Savinho last summer but failed in their pursuit of the Brazilian. Antoine Semenyo's move to the Etihad has only pushed the former Spurs target further down the pecking order at the Etihad and now could be the time to revisit their interest in the 21-year-old.

His talent is beyond doubt and he would be an investment with the future in mind, even if that's a future without Thomas Frank.

West Ham – Acquire defenders who can, y'know, defend

The January additions of Taty Castellanos and Pablo have boosted West Ham's attack but reinforcements are needed at the other end of the pitch as well.

Shoring up the defence must be a priority for Nuno Espírito Santo and drafting in a new centre-back could go some way to fixing that issue.

    Wolves – Build a Championship 2026/27 title-winning squad

Call it defeatist but Wolves need to be smart this month and sign players with the Championship in mind.

It would take a miracle for the Black Country club to avoid the drop and they would be better off investing in Rob Edwards' squad for next season, rather than wasting money on desperate panic buys.
