With the commitment of former Georgia tight end Pearce Spurlin late last week, a total of five players at that position are part of the Rams’ 2026 transfer class.
Spurlin joins former UConn Huskies Dominic Toy, Juice Vereen and Nader Chirchi, along with Grant Houser (Louisville) in that position group. The collective is tasked with replacing last year’s starter, Rocky Beers, and Jaxxon Warren — the latter who arrived in Fort Collins with high expectations but was hampered with injuries during the 2025 season.
Beers has transferred to Oklahoma, while Warren is headed to North Carolina.
Spurlin joined the Bulldogs after he was one of the highest-rated recruits out of Florida in 2023. He was the understudy to former Georgia star Brock Bowers and was expected to have a big role in 2024.
But before that season began, according to multiple reports, Spurlin was diagnosed with a heart condition, and doctors told him he wouldn’t play football again. He had to medically retire but remained on the Georgia roster in 2024 and 2025.
He eventually had surgery to repair his aortic valve, and his ability and opportunity to play football returned. However, since he had medically retired from Georgia, he couldn’t play for the Bulldogs anymore, so he entered the transfer portal.
CSU’s new offensive coordinator, Pryce Tracy, was an assistant tight ends coach at Georgia from 2022 to 2024 and would have worked with Spurlin in Athens.
Along with the tight ends, CSU’s list of committed transfers continues to grow. On Monday, the Rams received three more commitments, led by former Auburn running back Durrell Robinson. Robinson was a redshirt sophomore last season and appeared in four games for the Tigers, posting three carries for 57 yards and a touchdown. He missed several games with an injury.
Prior to playing at Auburn, Robinson was at UConn in 2024, where he rushed for 731 yards on 107 carries and scored eight touchdowns. In 2023, he played at Charlotte, where he rushed for 166 yards in four games.
Also announcing his commitment Monday was former University of Montana linebacker Caleb Otlewski. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder was a redshirt sophomore in 2025. He led Montana in tackles in 2025 with 79 to go along with 9.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions. In two seasons at Montana he had 112 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and three interceptions. He played at San Diego State in 2023 and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Former UConn defensive lineman Cleto Choi also announced his commitment to the Rams on Monday. The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder was a redshirt sophomore in 2025 when he had four tackles and one-half sack in eight games for the Huskies. He also has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Other players who committed late last week include Elijah Mc-Cantos, a 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back from Appalachian State. As a redshirt junior last fall, Mc-Cantos had 56 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. He played in 12 games over two seasons at Illinois before transferring to Appalachian State. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Former Western Kentucky defensive lineman Robby Harrison has also committed to CSU. A redshirt junior last fall, the 6-foot-4, 320-pounder had 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. Before playing at Western Kentucky, he spent two years at Indiana, playing in 10 games, and he also was on Arizona State’s roster in 2022. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Brandon Kelly, a 6-foot-6 defensive lineman from UConn, is also heading to Fort Collins. Kelly was a redshirt sophomore last fall and played in six games for the Huskies, where he recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is one of several new Rams who previously played at UConn under new CSU head coach Jim Mora.
CSU has also received a commitment from linebacker Oumar Diomande, a 6-foot-1, 230-pounder also from UConn. As a redshirt sophomore for the Huskies last fall, he was second on the team with 116 tackles to go along with eight tackles for loss and five sacks. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Another former UConn player, wide receiver Terrence Smith, is on his way to Fort Collins. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder was a redshirt freshman last fall and had four catches for 34 yards along with 14 carries for 75 yards and touchdown. In high school in South Carolina, he threw for 2,616 yards, ran for 3,648 and had 101 receiving yards.
So far, the Rams have added more than 30 players through the transfer portal for next fall’s roster.
