ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Tracking a dusting of snow first thing this morning then lots of clouds and some increasing wind into Monday afternoon. Gusts 30-40mph across the region later today. An arctic front will arrive around 2-3PM with snow showers likely and light accumulations of an inch or two. Snow bands will increase off Lake Erie during the afternoon and bring several inches to regions southwest of metro Rochester. For travel around the state keep an eye on Thruway south of Buffalo and 81 into the Tug Hill. At times through Wednesday significant impacts from heavy lake snow possible in those areas. This snow will pass other parts of the region at times into Monday evening with light amounts expected. Some blowing snow in the open countryside and the feel like wind chill will dip below zero into Monday night.
Looking ahead to Tuesday the Lake Erie snow will be over Wyoming County with some impact for parts of Livingston, Ontario and Yates County. This band will drift back to the north into the afternoon and bring chances for some light amounts of snow for much of the region. A general light snow will arrive later on Wednesday with another clipper system and more arctic air will arrive to end the week.
The overall pattern will bring very wintry weather to much of the country into the weekend and next week as well. At this time no large storms are threatening Rochester or the Finger Lakes. Next major storm looks to stay to our south and arctic air lingers over us with flurries and local lake flakes.
