'90s kids and Disney fans, rise! Your favorite early aughts pop group has returned.
After more than 20 years, the Swedish foursome known as A*Teens is gearing up to launch a brand new single, aptly named "Iconic," and those who grew up with their hyperpop tunes always stuck in their heads are "screaming" after hearing the news.
Marie Serneholt, Amit Paul, Dhani Lennevald, and Sara Lumholdt, have been teasing the upcoming track on their official social media page, leaving fans itching for more as we inch closer and closer to the release date of Jan. 31.
In a recent video, the band spoke about recording after so many years, noting, "all of us together again in the studio feels….... Iconic."
"It was the first time stepping into the studio in a little over 20 years. There were such mixed feelings because we never thought we would make new music again," they said, calling the experience "super fun."
As news spread online, fans felt themselves drowning in the nostalgia, calling it "surreal."
"A*Teens back? My inner 2002 self is screaming," one fan wrote.
"Wowwwww used to love them!!! Let’s gooo, love when ppl don’t stop following their dreams," another applauded.
"No way A*Teens are back after 22 years?" somebody else said in shock. "Nostalgia overload, can’t wait for ‘Iconic!'"
"Didn’t think I’d see A Teens drop again," another fan admitted. "January 31 feels surreal."
"The world is healing," someone else quipped. "Fun is returning to pop ✨."
"real pop music is back!!!" another declared.
ABBA Tribute-Turned Disney Icons-Turned Eurovision Stars?
The A*Teens were formed in 1998, originally as an ABBA tribute group called the ABBA-Teens. After six years together, they released a Greatest Hits album and disbanded, later reuniting in 2024.
They launched their career with an international chart-topping ABBA cover album, and made appearances on Disney—with their cover of Elton John's "Can't Help Falling In Love" eventually being featured in Lilo & Stitch and "Under the Sea” making one of the Disneymania albums—and Nickelodeon before releasing their second album, which was comprised of original tracks, which included the international Top 10 hit "Upside Down." Through a series of concert tours, they opened for artists like Britney Spears and Aaron Carter.
Today, they're preparing to perform at Sweden's Melodifestivalen, the festival that determines Sweden's representative in the Eurovision song competition. The event takes place between Jan. 31 and March 7, with "Iconic" serving as their submission.
