Brown Women Dominate, Colombia Men Earn Gritty Win in Split Ivy League Dual

A pair of Ivy League Institutions met for a dual meet on Saturday, where the women of Brown University dominated Columbia 244-56, while Columbia’s men emerged victorious 157-143 on Brown’s Senior Day.

    Women’s Recap

    Brown opened up the scoring with their ‘B’ 200 medley relay of Nadia Thomas, Amie Barrow, Eva McIver-Jenkins, and Audrey Chung, who combined for a meet-opening win in 1:41.46.

    Brown dominated the 400 IM, with sophomore Natalie Garre leading a top four sweep of the event in a lifetime best of 4:15.11. Senior Summer Chmielewski (4:19.83), junior Brooke Manning (personal best of 4:20.87), and Emilia Barck (4:22.36).

    Freshman Isabella Dieffenthaller narrowly out touched her teammate Kelly Dolce (1:48.05) in the 200 free by less than a tenth of a second in 1:48.05.

    Brown sophomores Nadia Thomas (54.83) and Crystal Yuen (55.62) lead the way in the women’s 100 back, finishing 1st and 2nd, respectively.

    Angelina Chen touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.54, just less than three tenths ahead of her teammate Catherine Yu, who swam a season best in 1:02.83.

    McIver-Jenkins clocked a major best time in the 200 butterfly to earn the win for Brown in 1:59.95.

    Brown senior Morgan Lukinac clocked the only 50 free time under 23 seconds for the win in 22.82. Lukinac later picked up the win in the 100 free with her final time of 49.05.

    Elena Yeh led the way on the boards, winning both the 1 -meter in 296.18 and the 3-meter board for Brown in 316.58.

    Brown’s Brooke Manning narrowly outpaced Nadia Thomas (1:57.45) in the 200 back to nab the win in 1:57.18, her fastest ever performance in the event.

    The duo of Amie Barrow (2:14.28) and Kaitlyn Holmes (2:15.07) led the 1-2 finish for Brown, each setting lifetime best times in the process.

    Yeun added a win of her own later in the meet, stopping the clock first in the 500 free in 4:54.84.

    Brown’s Lily Klinginsmith led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 100 fly, swimming a season-best time of 53.61.

    Sophomore Emily Barck took the 200 IM by just a hair over a second for Brown in 2:03.02.

    Brown’s 200 free relay of Yuen (23.37), Chung (22.82), Klinginsmith (22.83), and Dolce (22.46) put the finishing touches on a dominant effort over Columbia with a winning 200 free relay of 1:31.48.

    Men’s Recap

    Columbia’s men kicked off their meet with a 200 medley relay win in 1:28.24.

    Colombia freshman Stephen Zhukov and sophomore teammate Zach Vasser led the 1-2 finish in the men’s 1000 freestyle; Zhukov touched just under a second ahead of Vasser (9:20.71) in 9:19.37.

    Junior Zion James touched first in the 50 free for Columbia in 20.08; his teammate Sam Eckert was 2nd in 20.44.

    Senior Seungjoon Ahn and Adam Wu finished 1-2 for Columbia in the 200 fly, separated by one hundredth of a second. Ahn touched first in 1:49.69, Wu followed in 1:49.70.

    Columbia sophomore Josh Corn topped the 200 breast performers, touching in 2:00.30.

    Gian Santos, the Columbia freshman, clocked the fastest 500 free of the day in 4:29.76, his fastest performance of the season to this point.

    Columbia’s 400 free relay of Yu Tong Wu (44.66), Eckert (44.70), Hitchens (44.14), and James (42.81) helped close out a winning day on the road with a winning time of 2:56.31.

    Brown sophomore Christopher Zhang earned the first win for his school in the 200 free, clocking a new lifetime best of 1:35.95. Zang would later double up on the wins with his performance in the 100 free, touching the wall in a personal best time of 43.68. He also added a 100 fly win in 48.16; the next four finishes were all from Columbia.

    Sophomore Marton Nagy took the 100 back win for Brown in 48.77, just a tenth ahead of Columbia’s Derek Hitchens (48.87). Nagy would complete the backstroke sweep with a comfortable win in 1:47.36. His final win of the day came in the 200 IM, touching in the only time under 1:50 in 1:49.39.

    Sophomore Max Moore earned the 100 breast in 55.07, two tenths better than Columbia’s Beri Yang in 55.28.

    Rowland Lawver would not be stopped on 1-meter for Brown, dominating the event in 372.83. Lawver also doubled up on the boards with another win on 3-meter in 371.25.
