Elisabeth Shue became a star in the movie Adventures in Babysitting and the 1980s beauty has continued to thrill fans as recent appearances and projects show she hasn’t aged a bit! But what became of her co-stars from the 1987 teen comedy classic, which premiered nearly 40 years ago on June 19, 1987?
Adventures in Babysitting starred Shue as Chris Parker, a responsible high school girl who accepts a last-minute babysitting job after her boyfriend cancels their date. But Parker’s gig becomes a train wreck as she gets embroiled in a crazy night in Chicago with the kids. While desperately trying to get home, the group experiences adventures with car thieves and other odd characters.
Shue was ably supported by actors Keith Coogan, Anthony Rapp, Maia Brewton, Bradley Whitford, and Penelope Miller. Adventures in Babysitting will soon mark 40 years as a cult favorite, and Shue looks nearly the same at age 62 as she did in her early 20s! Also, as Parade.com recently reported, her co-stars who played the kids recently reunited at an event.
What are Shue and the rest of the Babysitting cast and their director up to these days? Read on to find out more!

'Adventures in Babysitting' Cast: Where Are They Now?
Elisabeth Shue (Chris Parker)
Shue got her start in a Burger King commercial while in college. She was the only girl in a family of four children that included younger brother Andrew Shue, who also became an actor and starred on TV’s Melrose Place. Tragically, as Nickiswift.com recalled, another brother, William, died in 1988, a year after Shue had her breakout role in Adventures in Babysitting. While on a family vacation, William, 26, was swinging on a tire swing when a rope broke, and he was thrown into a tree branch, which impaled him.
Shue’s grief likely gave more depth and emotion to her performances, and her career took off with the films Cocktail (1988), Soapdish (1991), and Leaving Las Vegas (1995), in which she played against type as a sex worker and received an Academy Award nomination. Shue also launched a successful TV career, starring in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation from 2012 to 2015 and Amazon’s The Boys from 2019 to 2020. In 2021, she reprised her 1984 role as Ali Mills from The Karate Kid movie in Netflix’s series Cobra Kai.

Guggenheim later told the story of the Shue family and William’s death in the film Gracie. The couple have three children—sonMiles, 28, and daughters Stella, 24, and Agnes, 19.

In 2022, Shue told Today about Adventures in Babysitting, “Its innocence, I think, resonates today, possibly, just watching these young kids trying to navigate a really complicated world and how they learn and grow from there. Their night out together, I think is a story that obviously is timeless.”

Redheaded Rapp portrayed Daryl Coopersmith, the friend who tags along on the chaotic evening out with babysitter Chris Parker and the kids. In 2021, Shue recalled briefly dating Whitford after meeting on the 1987 teen comedy.
“Brad and I became very good friends after Adventures in Babysitting, and I actually ended up going out with him,” she told Vulture. “I’m not sure if he asked me or I asked him.”

Miller played Parker’s stranded pal Brenda as a nerdy young woman but blossomed into a beauty in films like Kindergarten Cop (1990) and Carlito's Way (1993).
The blonde actress, 62, was briefly married to actor Will Arnett from 1994-95. Miller had two daughters with her second husband James Huggins, whom she married in 2000. In 2012, Miller filed for legal separation from Huggins but the couple soon reconciled.
She marveled to ET about Adventures in Babysitting to mark its 30thanniversary, “It was the beginning of my career. I don’t think it opened very big, but now it’s a cult thing.” Miller most recently starred as Nancy Reagan in the 2024 movie Reagan.
View this post on InstagramChris Columbus (director)
Fans appreciate director Chris Columbus who went on to greater things after helming Adventures in Babysitting as his first movie. Columbus continued with hits such as the Macaulay Culkin Christmas classic Home Alone (1990), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) with Robin Williams, and two Harry Potter movies. He’s considered a master of childhood and family themes. It's no wonder, as he and wife Monica, who have been married since 1983, have four children.
1980s enthusiasts will be glad that Columbus, 67, is reportedly now developing sequels for two hit films he wrote before becoming a director—Gremlins and The Goonies.
AIB’s coolest moment is when Shue sings “Babysitting Blues” and Columbus remembered to GQ, “It was total joy shooting that sequence…and it really is the highlight of the film.”
