College Fight! Blackhawks Prospect Sacha Boisvert Dropped the Gloves

On Friday night, UMass Lowell beat Boston University 4-3 in overtime. The game was competitive, with both teams scoring a power play and short-handed goal. But… that’s not why we’re here.

At 9:10 into the third period, Blackhawks prospect Sacha Boisvert and UMass’ Connor Eddy received matching minor penalties for roughing.

When Boisvert and Eddy left their respective penalty boxes, they weren’t done. We got a rare fight in college hockey — and it was a legit heavyweight bought! Here are a few camera angles of the throw down.

Both Boisvert and Eddy received disqualifications from the game. And there’s a chance Hockey East calls with a suspension as well.

The last time there was a throw-down like this was in February of last year when Arizona State defenseman Tucker Ness dropped the gloves with Alaska-Fairbanks’ Dawson Bruneski. Like this fight, that took place as the two combatants left their respective penalty boxes.

Ness and Bruneski were suspended for their fight, with their teams effectively kicking both players off their teams for the remainder of their season. Ness pissed his coach off enough that he wasn’t inviting Ness back. Bruneski’s season was also cut short by his coach.

Here’s the catch in that statement, however: their disqualifications carried automatic three-game suspensions, and both schools only had four games remaining in their season. So comments on social media about “season-ending suspensions” may have been slightly deceiving.

We’ll see if Hockey East or their respective athletic departments require any significant time off to Boisvert and Eddy after their dance on Friday night.

Interestingly, it was just Thursday night on the Blackhawks’ pregame show that Boisvert’s name came up. Frank Seravalli reported expectations are still that Boisvert turns pro after this season.

Boisvert is no stranger to fighting. You might recall the piece Scott Wheeler wrote at The Athletic in 2024 about how he took boxing lessons when he was young — because his dad owns a taekwondo and boxing gym. He had a few good fights in the USHL with Muskegon before making the move to college before last season.
