Like many bands that are still touring after decades in the music business, Journey has seen plenty of lineup changes over the years, with one of the most notable changes being the final departure of beloved lead singer Steve Perry decades ago. Now, as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers plan their upcoming farewell tour, rumors are circulating that another personnel shift could be in the works.
As Stereogum reported, fans are wondering whether longtime keyboardist Jonathan Cain (who helped to write some of the band's biggest hits) and singer Arnel Pineda will end up being a part of the group's extensive Final Frontier tour, scheduled to kick off in Hershey, Pennsylvania next month. While Cain and Pineda were reportedly pictured in the press materials when the tour was announced in November, they haven't taken part in the band's two recent promotional appearances.
Perhaps even more telling, according to Journey's subreddit, Pineda recently posted a curious comment on Journey drummer and sometimes singer Deen Castronovo's Instagram: "congratulations and have fun on your 2026 Farewell Tour."
Plus, on Twitter last month, guitarist Neal Schon — the only remaining original Journey member — defended Castronovo, Schon and Cain's former Bad English bandmate, clarifying that he did not lip sync to Perry's voice at a San Francisco 49ers home game.
Any that are in doubt that was Deen Castronovo 1000% he does sing that well. t.co/bzYTRlV2D8
— NEAL SCHON MUSIC (@NealSchonMusic) December 31, 2025As for why Pineda and Cain might be skipping this next jaunt, multiple theories have been making the rounds. It's worth noting that Pineda has been dealing with legal problems. As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, he was arraigned in September in his native Philippines in connection with a domestic violence charge made by his wife, Cherry Flores-Pineda.
Plus, Cain has sued Schon more than once, including a 2024 lawsuit alleging that Schon maxed out the band's American Express account (which had a $1 million limit) in addition to exceeding a daily hotel fee cap of $1,500 by spending "up to $10,000 per night."No matter who takes the stage when Journey's next tour begins, fans will definitely fill up the seats...but whether or not they're disappointed with the lineup remains to be seen.
