Consumer Investigation: Nursing home company denies any plans to manage troubled facility

CHARLOTTE, N.Y. — Confusion surrounds the future management of Waterview Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing. News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry reported that the facility, currently owned by The Grand Healthcare Systems, was set to be managed by Advanced Health Care next month. However, a spokesman from Advanced Health Care denied any involvement.

Waterview Heights is under close monitoring by the Department of Health due to a history of abuse and neglect, as documented in inspections. Two managers on site report directly to the department. Despite this, the facility’s spokesman said significant changes are expected.

“Advanced Healthcare is taking over management of all the facilities in upstate New York,” said Jeffrey Yeh, the spokesman for Waterview Heights.

Advanced Health Care operates 25 nursing homes across 11 states with a strong reputation. Ninety-six percent of its homes have received top star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“Rochester has a lot to celebrate on this. I think that Advanced Health Care is going to do a very good thing for the Rochester area,” said the spokesman.

Yeh said Advance will take over operations on February 1, but technically The Grand will still own those facilities.

Dewberry reached out to Advanced Health Care and received an email from the company’s attorney stating, “Unfortunately, I believe that you have received incorrect information. Advanced Health Care is not familiar with this facility.”

Questions remain about whether another company with a similar name might be involved. However, an exhaustive search did not uncover another company with the same name that manages and operates nursing homes.

The vice president of The Grand, the current owner, refused to provide contact information for Advanced Health Care. So, unanswered questions remain. The Waterview spokesman insists the new company would begin managing operations at Waterview and other nursing homes owned by The Grand on February 1.
