Man dies after arrest near Keystone Ski Resort employee housing

A 43-year-old man died shortly after he was arrested near Keystone Ski Resort employee housing on Monday, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The man was first contacted by law enforcement on Sunday morning when Dillon Keystone police officers pulled him over for driving without a license plate, state officials said in a news release. He fled the scene after officers asked for his license and registration.

    Officers did not chase the man, but determined he had three outstanding arrest warrants and on Monday found his vehicle parked at the resort.

    Police tracked him to the Sunrise employee housing apartment complex at 65 Tennis Club Road, where they found him hiding inside a vehicle at 1:14 p.m. and arrested him.

    The man told police he did not have any injuries but officers saw “visible signs of medical distress,” CBI officials said. Officers thought he might be going through an overdose and gave him naloxone, and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:16 p.m.

    Police didn’t use any physical force during the arrest, state officials said.

    CBI is investigating the case and declined to release the man’s name. His cause and manner of death will be determined by the Summit County Coroner’s Office.
