When the CHIPS and Science Act was passed in 2022, Micron said it would invest $100bn in the facility.
The Act allocated $53bn in subsidies for investment in chip fabrication plants on American soil.
New York State expects the plant to create 9,000 direct jobs when it opens, and 40,000 indirect jobs.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul said: “Micron’s $100bn investment in New York marks the start of something transformative in scale and possibility for our state’s economic future.”
Sanjay Mehrotra, Micron’s president, said: “Our investments and progress solidify our position as the only United States manufacturer of memory.”
