VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) – A Ventura man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges, amongst other offenses in a 2022 attack that left another man dead.
On Monday, Pedro Munoz of Ventura admitted to stabbing Marcos Guzman Reyes to death on July 23, 2022 along a bike path Ventura’s Montalvo neighborhood. A press release from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office explains that both men were unhoused at the time of the murder, and were staying in the same area.
Video surveillance captured the two men entering the bike path area, and Munoz quickly fleeing the area after the attack. Reyes was later found with multiple stab wounds.
Samples obtained from Munoz' shoes at the time of his capture from blood stains were tested and confirmed to contain the victim’s DNA.
In addition to the murder, Munoz also admitted to special allegations and charges including, the use of a deadly weapon, the crime involving great violence and that he was on parole at the time he committed the murder.
“After four years, I hope the defendant’s decision to accept responsibility for Marcos’ murder willfinally allow the victim’s family to begin moving forward,” Deputy District Attorney Kalin Woodward, said. “This guilty plea can provide them with some sense of closure and allow them to continue the process of healing from their loss.”
Pedro Munoz is scheduled to be sentenced on November 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 12 of theVentura County Superior Court. The DA's office expects him to serve 26 years to life in state prison.
