The Loveland Police Department and officers from across the region arrested an armed male suspect after shots were reportedly fired at a Loveland hotel Friday night, according to officials.
Just before 7 p.m. a Hampton Inn employee reported an armed guest, who has not been publicly identified, inside the hotel, located at 5500 Stone Creek Circle, and officers responded within four minutes, said Public Information Officer Chris Padgett during a press briefing around 10 p.m.
The suspect came down from his room to the lobby, where the employee was working and “made contact” with her, Padgett said. The interaction is still being investigated and Padgett could not provide any further information.
Padgett said the employee called 911 because the guest was in possession of a firearm.
As officers arrived, the employee fled the hotel in distress, Padgett said. At that point is when police suspect shots were fired inside the hotel, but Padgett could not confirm.
No injuries have been reported, Padgett said.
The suspect was in the lobby, but moved deeper within the hotel as officers arrived, Padgett said. Officers cleared the building and evacuated hotel guests and staff.
Officers encountered and arrested the male suspect just before 9:30 p.m., Padgett said.
Padgett said multiple false rumors circulated on social media, including a hostage situation, reports that officers fired shots and that an officer was shot.
“Those things are detrimental to a live scene,” Padgett said. “It incites fear and a lot of public concern as the public should be concerned when they hear those things, not knowing what the truth is.”
The area around the hotel was to remain closed as the investigation continued, the 9:30 p.m. update stated.
Hotel guests were working with the Loveland Police Department’s Victim Services team to get different accommodations for the night.
“There is a lot of mental anguish that goes beyond just the incident,” Padgett said. “We are working with everyone who is involved inside of the hotel …”
