Denver man fatally stabbed on-again, off-again partner, police say

A 38-year-old Denver man accused of second-degree murder fatally stabbed his on-again, off-again partner on Monday night after arguing all day at a home in Sunnyside, according to an arrest affidavit.

Christopher Thomas “CT” Fielder was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Saquan “Miles” Verner, 30, at a home in the 4200 block of North Lipan Street.

Denver police responded to the neighborhood on Monday after a woman called 911 at 9:46 p.m. and reported hearing someone yelling for help.

Officers found Verner lying on the ground outside of a home with a stab wound to the upper left chest. He was taken to Denver Health and pronounced dead at 10:27 p.m., according to the affidavit.

Police forced entry into the home and found blood inside, and investigators later determined Fielder had called 911 about 30 minutes before the stabbing to report a domestic violence assault and harassment.

Fielder agreed to meet officers at another location but never showed up, according to the affidavit.

Court records also showed Fielder took out a restraining order against Verner in July and the pair had a history of domestic violence issues.

Fielder and Verner had spent time with several friends in the hours before the stabbing and were continuously arguing, witnesses told police.

After the stabbing, Fielder confessed to three different people that he stabbed Verner, telling one person he did not stab him in a place where he would “bleed out.”

Fielder was arrested in Glendale on Wednesday and is in custody at the Downtown Detention Center on a $500,000 cash-only bail. His next court date was not available Friday.
