Palisades Village displayed three beams of light rising from the property on Wednesday to mark the one-year anniversary of the devastating wildfires across Los Angeles County — and to honor the victims and survivors in the Pacific Palisades, Altadena and Malibu communities. The beams were intended to be the symbol of unity between the impacted communities, and of the strength and resilience of all Angelenos.
The lighting ceremony featured remarks by Rick Caruso, founder and executive chairman of Caruso, and owner of Palisades Village. Caruso said, “It is the people who have proven that the soul of our community isn’t just found in the zip code, but in the unbreakable bond we share as proud Angelenos.” As the crowd looked into the sky, the three blue beams united as one beam to show unity between the three impacted communities.
Caruso took the moment to criticize Los Angeles city officials for what he believes is a lack of accountability and for the city’s slow rebuilding process.
On Facebook, Caruso said the event was meant to “reflect on what we lost, share gratitude for one another’s strengths, and look to the future with hope for our communities. Together, we honor the past, stand in the present, and move forward with unity and purpose.” The lights will go on every night at Palisades Village until January 31.
