El Cajon will roll out a six-month pilot program next month intended to improve the effectiveness of street sweeping in specific areas of the city, officials announced Wednesday.
According to the city, the program is intended to “reduce storm water pollution by removing trash and debris that often remain when parked vehicles prevent sweepers from accessing the curb.”
The city will reach out to local residents and business owners, as well as install new “No Parking during Street Sweeping” signs.
The impacted streets are:
Fesler Street (between Johnson and Pioneer): Wednesdays, 4-7 a.m. Decker Street (between Anza and First): north side on the third Monday of each month, and south side on the fourth Monday between 7-10 a.m. East Madison Avenue (between Fourth and Verdin Street): on the third Monday of each month, 7-10 a.m. East Main Street (between Third Street and Broadway): north side on Mondays, south side on Thursdays between 4-7 a.m.El Cajon staff will reach out to the public with door hangers, windshield notices, temporary entrance signage, permanent no-parking signs displaying sweeping schedules, warning notices during the first scheduled sweep, and public reminders through the city’s website and social media platforms.
Enforcement on the new program will begin with the second scheduled sweep. Violations may result in a $42.50 parking citation and/or a tow.
