A motorcyclist from Chula Vista was killed Wednesday in a collision with an on-duty firefighter’s pickup truck on a stretch of rural roadway, authorities said.
The fatal crash took place at about 8:30 a.m. in the 17300 block of state Route 94, in front of Cal Fire Station 30 in Dulzura, according to the state agency.
The motorcyclist, 30, was heading west when the 33-year-old driver of an eastbound 2023 Toyota Tacoma made a left turn in his path, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The rider of the 2021 Yamaha died at the scene of the accident. The man’s name was withheld pending family notification.
Paramedics took the firefighter, an Imperial Beach resident, to a San Diego hospital for treatment of minor injuries, CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez said.
The Cal Fire employee was driving his personal vehicle at the time of the crash, said Mike Cornette, a fire captain with the state agency.
