ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Our January thaw continues with high temperatures today set to rise above freezing again. We start out with some wet flakes turning to rain, then the rest of the day will be cloudy.
Tomorrow we get a break in the clouds with high temperatures past the 40 degree mark, then Friday large scale low pressure will pull up sufficient moisture for a soaking rain and even milder temperatures with highs all the way into the mid FIFTIES! However, this combination of rain and melting snow may cause some ponding on roads and minor flooding in creeks and streams.
A second low pressure system trailing right behind will bring more mild temperatures and rain for Saturday, and that’ll be it for our January thaw. Behind the second system comes much colder air, wind, and some chances for lake effect snow on Sunday. Temperatures then remain in the 30s all the way through next Friday… Oof. Some good news is that it won’t be cloudy and below freezing all the time… Just most of the time.
The second half of January is expected to settle back into a colder-than-normal pattern with frequent cold and dry northwest air filtering in.
