CAIRO, Jan 5 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government attaches great importance to entrepreneurship, noting that a ministerial working group is overseeing the file alongside an advisory committee of experts and specialists to advance this vital sector.
Madbouly added that a dedicated charter for entrepreneurship has been finalized, stressing that the government is currently working on activating a number of decisions and measures aimed at pushing forward the entrepreneurship agenda and fostering its growth.
The remarks came during a meeting held Monday at the government headquarters in the New Capital to review efforts to develop the entrepreneurship sector through the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship and the Advisory Committee for the Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.
The prime minister said proposals are being discussed to establish a unified institutional entity for entrepreneurship, bringing together under one umbrella the efforts of all relevant ministries and serving as a single reference point for all matters related to the sector.
He noted that such an entity would help address challenges facing entrepreneurs, provide comprehensive support, and offer a unified institutional framework for stakeholders, adding that the meeting aimed to discuss this proposal.
Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Minister Rania Al-Mashat reviewed the key outcomes of the ministerial group for entrepreneurship, saying the group has worked to adopt policies supporting startups across various stages, including ideation, establishment, early growth, expansion, and maturity or exit, with tailored tools and policies for each phase.
She said that over 2025, the group held 50 meetings involving 250 entities and 160 startups, resulting in the identification of 80 measures related to entrepreneurship and startups based on feedback from government bodies and the entrepreneurship community.
Mashat outlined initiatives and policies ready for launch, including a unified definition and classification of startups in implementation of Law No. 152 of 2020, a unified government guide for startup services, a consolidated financing initiative, a program for mature-stage startups, facilitative measures and supportive policies, as well as a unified contact point, an official website, and an observatory to monitor the implementation of entrepreneurship policies.
Prime Minister’s Advisor for Entrepreneurship Amr Al-Abd said work is currently based on three main pillars: recognizing entrepreneurship as a key driver of sustainable economic growth, addressing current challenges through enhanced coordination among stakeholders using best practices, and positioning Egypt as a leading player in the global entrepreneurship ecosystem to attract investors and build confidence among entrepreneurs.
The meeting also reviewed the current challenges facing the entrepreneurship sector in Egypt, key government initiatives related to the file, and attendees’ views on the proposal to establish a unified entrepreneurship entity.
The discussions further covered a proposal for a unified government initiative to stimulate investment in startups, aimed at encouraging private sector and venture capital investment, both local and international, in Egyptian startups, while maximizing returns from available government resources.
The meeting was attended by ministers, senior officials, and representatives of relevant authorities. (MENA)
