Caleb Williams has done a bunch of cool things this season.
He led the Bears to 11 wins, quarterbacked the team to its first playoff appearance since 2020, and led the way so the squad could capture its first NFC North title since 2018. Williams also set the franchise’s single-season passing yardage record in Week 18. It has been a banner year for the second-year quarterback. But for all the boxes Caleb Williams checked in terms of accomplishments this season, this is one I was not expecting to see:
According to @NextGenStats, these were the fastest players in the #NFL this season, in terms of the amount of 20+ MPH runs.1) Keaton Mitchell (RB – 7)2) Jonathan Taylor (RB – 6)3) Jahmyr Gibbs (RB – 6)4) Caleb Williams (QB – 5)5) Derrick Henry (RB – 5)6) Saquon Barkley (RB… pic.twitter.com/oqycSYLN9F

You expect to see players like Jahmyr Gibbs, Jonathan Taylor, De’Von Achane, Bijan Robinson, Saquon Barkley, and Breece Hall on a list of the NFL’s fastest players based on the number of 20+ mph runs generated in a given season. However, I don’t think too many expect a quarterback to make the top-10 cut. And Bears quarterback Caleb Williams probably isn’t the one who would come to mind first among speedy quarterbacks. But here he is with five runs of 20+ mph this season. That is as many as Barkley, Hall, Achane, Robinson, and Derrick Henry. You know your legs are doing something right when you are keeping that type of company.

On the one hand, it is pretty bonkers to see Caleb Williams on this list. But on the other hand, it isn’t all too surprising. After all, Williams’ athleticism and mobility were strengths of his when he came out as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. And we have certainly see Williams scoot for some big gains in his first two seasons as a pro.
Caleb Williams ran it 77 times for 388 yards this season. And for good measure, Williams also scored three rushing touchdowns. These efforts come one year after Williams posted 489 rushing yards on 81 carries as a rookie in 2024. Even though Williams ran it fewer times and didn’t accumulate as many yards as he did as a rookie, Williams used his legs to convert 28 first downs in 2025 — one more than he did last season.

I like that Caleb Williams was still a successful runner this season while also maintaining his presence as a pocket passer. That tends to be a tough balance for young quarterbacks to strike. But in Year 1 under Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson, it seems like Williams has a handle on when it is time to stick in the pocket and when it is time to get out on the move. The dual threat nature of his game makes him a dangerous player. Not to mention an absolute nightmare to gameplan for from a defensive standpoint.
With Williams set to make his playoff debut on Saturday, I expect to see him empty the bag and do whatever it takes to help secure the Bears’ first playoff win since January 16, 2011 when they beat the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field. Based on how this year has gone, you can expect for Williams to pop off at least one dazzling highlight-reel run. Hopefully, it comes in a victory.
