The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opposed the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s call to move their T20 World Cup 2026 games out of India. This comes after the BCB raised security concerns for their players amid soaring tensions between both countries. As per reports, the BCCI has claimed that rescheduling the games to different venues in the last minute would be a logistical nightmare, for both the organisers and the broadcast crew.
BCCI rejects Bangladesh’s plea over T20 World Cup matches
As per news agency PTI, a BCCI source claimed that games couldn’t be changed at the ‘whims and fancies’ of a party. The source implored the BCB to think about the teams that are scheduled to play with Bangladesh, noting that the air tickets and hotel arrangements were already made. The BCCI source further pointed out that there would be three games on a single day out of which one will be in Sri Lanka, which makes it very tough for the broadcaster.
“You can’t just change games at someone’s whims and fancies. It is a logistical nightmare. Think about opposition teams. Their air tickets, hotels are booked. Also, on all days, there are three games each, which means one game is in Sri Lanka. There is a broadcast crew. So it will be easier said than done,” the BCCI source said.
Bangladesh seek ICC for T20 WC change
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of BCB directors in Sylhet on Saturday. According to Cricbuzz, the board will write to the ICC seeking urgent clarification on security arrangements for Bangladesh players, team officials, media personnel, sponsors and travelling supporters during the tournament. The BCB will also seek a formal explanation from the BCCI regarding the circumstances under which Mustafizur was asked to leave the KKR squad despite getting picked up at the IPL 2026 auction.
“We are sending letter to ICC putting three clauses into it. Firstly, we would like to know from them about Mustafizur (exclusion from IPL) and secondly what is the security plan for us in the World Cup. More so because not only players will travel to India but along with them, media, fans and sponsors would also travel there to see the World Cup. Those who will go there, what will be their security status,” a top BCB official told Cricbuzz.
