“I can say that I have let my family down, and I apologize for my actions, which have hurt those closest to me, and for that I am deeply sorry,” Neale, 32, said in a press conference on Friday, January 2. “I accept this is a consequence of my actions, and I need to focus on rebuilding that trust with [wife] Jules, as the future wellbeing of our children remain[s] the No. 1 priority.”

During his press conference, Lachie asked the media to respect the privacy of Jules and their kids.
“I understand as a public figure that there is interest in my personal life,” he said. “However, I do ask the privacy of Jules and my children be respected as we work through our new situation and the next chapter of our lives.”
He was also asked about whether he sees himself as a role model for fans and whether he can continue to be one.
“Like I said, I’m extremely disappointed in my actions and the breakdown of my marriage and I take full responsibility for it,” Lachie said.
He continued, “For me, yeah, it hurts. I understand that I am a role model and I’ve probably let fans — not just at the Brisbane Lions, but the AFL — down, so I accept that responsibility and like I said, I’ve put things in place moving forward to become a better person.”
