Rochester City Council swears in new leaders during biannual organization meeting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nearly two months after the elections, several candidates from the area took their oaths of office during the Rochester City Council’s biannual organization meeting.

The meeting involved swearing in commissioners, electing officers, and designating administrative positions such as purchasing agent and claims auditor. Many attendees expressed optimism for the city’s future.

“Over the next four years, our movement is going to deliver more changes. And when I say change, I mean material, measurable shifts in the lives of our neighbors,” a speaker said.

Following the meeting, the regular cycle of council and committee meetings was set to resume. The full schedule will be updated throughout the year on the city’s official meetings page, which you can access here.

Several town supervisors in Monroe County were sworn in Friday, including Jeff McCann in Greece, Kevin Berry in Penfield, Bill Moehle in Brighton, and Alex Scialdone in Webster.

John Perticone was also sworn in on New Year’s Day as Irondequoit Town Supervisor. The Democrat defeated Republican candidate Anthony Costanza and current Town Supervisor Andrae Evans, a Democratic write-in candidate.

Both candidates hoped to replace Evans, who didn’t secure enough signatures to get on the ballot and was accused of sexually harassing a female employee of the town. Evans has denied the claims.
