ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Typical midwinter weather to start the new year with areas of lake snow south of Lake Ontario with clear conditions away from the lake. New snowfall today will range from nothing to a few fluffy inches with locally higher amounts in parts of Wayne County. Frigid weather with temps near 20 and feel like wind chill around zero. Lake snow will retreat to the north this afternoon over Lake Ontario as our attention will then shift to Lake Erie as a new band develops. Thursday night some snow likely south of the Thruway with an inch or two in spots. Heavier amounts likely around Wyoming County. That band will weaken and settle south on Friday as the Lake Ontario band begins to impact areas along the lakeshore and Wayne County at times Friday and Friday night with some additional accumulations.
Looking ahead to the weekend scattered lake effect snow showers will continue with light accumulations near the lakes. A weak clipper system will move by Saturday night with more widespread snow showers for everyone and light amounts. More cold and lake flakes on Sunday into Monday. Looking further ahead temps will moderate towards the middle and end of next week. Stay tuned to News10NBC for the latest on the wintry conditions.
