Elvis Presley was a huge fan of comfort food, and one meal in particular kept reappearing at dinnertime for a remarkable six months.
Angie Marchese, Graceland's VP of Archives and Exhibits, shared details of this one quirky food obsession in an official 2020 Graceland video. She discussed the meal and watched as it was created, right in the home's iconic kitchen.
Marchese was joined by Daniel Clark, Graceland's Food and Beverage Director, who showed Presley's fans how to make the family's beloved meatloaf recipe. The clip offered a unique chance to experience a taste of the King of Rock and Roll's life at Graceland.
"I heard, and Priscilla Presley has confirmed this, that for six months straight, this is what Elvis wanted for dinner every night," Marchese shared. Clark shared that he was going to demonstrate exactly "how the family made it."

The straightforward recipe includes ground beef, white bread, salt, pepper, wheat germ, garlic, celery, Vidalia onion, and eggs. The chef also added a can of tomato juice, completing the finished meal with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables.
The family recipe hails from The Presley Family Cookbook. It was first authored in 1980 by Vester Presley, brother of Presley's dad, Vernon Presley, and Graceland maid and cook, Nancy Rooks.
In the book, Rooks said of Presley, "We all loved our boss and his family. His home was like my own home because I spent more time there than at my house."
She continued, "He always said 'thank you' when we served him. At times, Mr. E.P. might put a $100 bill in my pocket and smile and say, 'Don't say anything,' but I would thank him anyway. I always enjoyed preparing his food."
Express reported that during a virtual tour of the home, Marchese further elaborated on Presley's particular eating habits. “He definitely was a creature of habit, so if it was made in the South…he liked it," she said.
She added, “Elvis grew up on good ol’ Southern food. He loved meatloaf, mashed potatoes, fried chicken…mac and cheese. Anything that he grew up on was some of his favorites.”
Elvis Presley died at his beloved Graceland home on August 16, 1977. He is buried alongside his parents, Vernon and Gladys, and grandmother, Minnie Mae Presley, in the home's Meditation Garden. Across from their graves, his daughter Lisa Marie Presley and her son, Benjamin Keough, are also laid to rest.
