So, the Blackhawks came out of the Christmas break with a thrilling win in Dallas and a dull thud at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. That’s kinda the way things have gone this season, isn’t it?
The good news for tonight is Nick Foligno is healthy and in the lineup and Ilya Mikheyev also returns from his absence to be with his family. We’re getting closer to a full Blackhawks lineup. The Blackhawks held only an optional morning skate today, so these are the new lines we saw at practice on Monday.
On the other end of the rink will be the New York Islanders and 2025 No. 1 overall pick Matthew Schaefer, who is a fabulous player and legit joy to watch play. Lots of young players on display tonight. Should be a fun one!

Injury Report
Chicago Blackhawks
Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar are on IR. Shea Weber (retired) is out long term.New York Islanders
Ilya Sorokin, Semyon Varlamov, Alexander Romanov, Kyle Palmieri, Ethan Bear and Pierre Engvall are on IR.What to Watch For
Schaefer’s first game against the Blackhawks. The kid is special. I’m excited to watch him for a full game. With Moore at center and Foligno and Mikheyev back, I’m interested to see how the Blackhawks’ coaches use their forwards. Who takes how many faceoffs? How many offensive zone starts will Moore/Lardis get? How does the PK evolved with more healthy bodies back? The Islanders also lost on home ice on Sunday. And it appears they will NOT have Sorokin back yet tonight.Get Caught Up
