Big Mondays from Blackhawks Prospects Frondell, Kantserov, Spellacy

The Blackhawks have some really hot prospects all over the world putting on a show and big numbers. And, after two hat tricks in the CHL over the weekend, performances in the KHL and at the World Junior Championship had my attention on Monday.

Kantserov Continues KHL Dominance

Blackhawks prospect Roman Kantserov scored his KHL-leading 25th and 26th goals of the season on Monday. He added two assists; his four points move him into second in the KHL in that regard now as well. As a Blackhawks fan, these should also excite you. Here are the two Kantserov goals:

    Two One-Timers from Frondell

Blackhawks prospect Anton Frondell scored the first goal for Sweden in their third game of the World Juniors. It was a howitzer on the power play. Frondell came back and scored a second goal in the third period of an 8-1 blowout win for over Germany. Shots like these should excite you as a Blackhawks fan. Here are the two goals:

Scott Wheeler from The Athletic asked Frondell about how much he works on his one-timer. His answer was surprising:

“I don’t know if I’ve even really practiced it! It just happens sometimes in games and I usually use it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I’m not thinking about it really. My stick is good! CCM! 80 flex!”

    Spellacy Sparks USA Comeback

In the late game (involving Blackhawks prospects) at the World Junior Championship, the United States dug a two-goal hole in the first period and needed a spark. The first goal for the Americans? A short-handed tally from Blackhawks prospect AJ Spellacy. Spellacy also had an assist on the USA’s second goal.

Spellacy now has two multi-point games in three contests to start the tournament — impressive for a guy who was thought to be little more than a fourth-line guy who plays a physical game. Here’s the goal and Spellacy talking to the cameras after a crazy second period that saw six pucks find the back of the net (four from the US).
