India cricket team star Jasprit Bumrah seems to have commenced his preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026 already, even though he isn’t a part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The veteran pacer is currently on a break after taking part in the Test series at home against WI and SA followed by the T20I series against the Proteas. Bumrah is expected to be seen in action next in the IND vs NZ T20I series which will take place just before the T20 WC.
Bumrah begins prep for IND vs NZ T20Is
As per Sportstar, Bumrah paid a surprise visit to the Gujarat College Ground on Monday where Tamil Nadu were playing Karnataka in their round three match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26. The report claims that the veteran Indian pacer bowled a few over in the nets under the supervision of Gujarat coach Hitesh Majumdar. Bumrah commenced his short stint at the nets by bowling from two steps before he gradually increased his run-up. Bumrah reportedly told the batter Sunpreet Bagga that he should ‘ride the bounce’ after beating him and ended his session after 30 minutes.
“He wasn’t bowling at full pace – around 130‑135 kmph. I faced two overs from him,” said Bagga after facing Bumah in the nets.
Being the match-winners that they are, Pandya and Bumrah are part of the Indian T20 World Cup 2026 team and the same squad will feature in the home T20I series against the Kiwis. It is the same approach that the management took with both these players in the previous white-ball series against South Africa, where the two were rested in ODIs but played the T20Is.
After sitting out of a couple of Tests in England, Bumrah has been in action regularly over the last few months. He was a part of the Test series against West Indies, following which he played against South Africa in both the Test and the T20I series. The pacer, who sustained a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the start of the year, spent nearly a couple of months on the sidelines and made his comeback only in IPL 2026. Since then, the Indian team management has been very careful with the bowler’s workload.
