A man has been sentenced to four years for aggravated vehicular unlawful termination of a pregnancy in Weld County.
Gordon Cobb, 39, was sentenced to serve four years at the Colorado Department of Corrections by District Court Judge Anita Jain Crowther on Nov. 12. Cobb pleaded guilty to one charge of aggravated vehicular unlawful termination of a pregnancy as part of a deal on July 3. Charges of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, DUI vehicular assault, reckless driving and other traffic offenses were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, according to Colorado court documents.
Cobb was charged after a June 12, 2024, crash in which a woman whose vehicle he hit in Weld County lost her pregnancy because the crash ruptured her uterus, according an arrest affidavit.
Timnath police who responded to the crash at the intersection of Colo. 14 and Weld County Road 15 were told by witnesses that Cobb was driving southbound on Weld County Road 15 and did not stop at the stop sign at Colo. 14, where he crashed with a pregnant woman driving westbound on Colo. 14.
When officers arrived, Cobb was lying on the ground because he was ejected from his vehicle and other people were instructing him not to get up. Cobb and the woman were taken to a Loveland hospital to treat their injuries, where police later learned that the woman’s uterus ruptured and her pregnancy was terminated.
At the hospital, Cobb’s speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy, he refused to speak to the police and asked for a lawyer, according to the June 2024 arrest affidavit. An officer believed that he was intoxicated, the affidavit states.
