Several BNSF Metra line trains scheduled to run on Christmas Eve were canceled mid-day due to an “operational incident,” Metra announced.
A staffing shortage resulted in the need to cancel some service on Christmas Eve, a Metra spokesperson told NBC Chicago.
Around 3:13 p.m., Metra BNSF posted about the cancelation on social media.
The trains that will not operate are the inbound 2026, 2028 and 2036. Canceled outbound trains are 2029, 2037 and 2041.
In addition to the cancellation, Metra is operating on a reduced schedule on December 24.
Metra is warning of crowding potential on several inbound trains, with the worst on No. 2034 scheduled to leave Aurora at 8:05 p.m.
