2025 was an unpredictable year at the box office, but 2026 is looking like a year of absolute titans. With a slate featuring aChristopher Nolan epic, the return of the MCU’s biggest stars, sci-fithrillers and high-tech toy sequels, movie lovers have a lot to be excited about.
From the long-awaited return of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest icons (like Robert Downey Jr.'s Dr. Doom and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America) to ambitious sci-fi adaptations like Project Hail Mary and Steven Spielberg's eerie new UFO thriller Disclosure Day, the 2026 movie calendar is totally stacked. There's also new installments from beloved franchises—including Toy Story 5, Jumanji 3, Scream 7, The Mandalorian & Grogu (Star Wars) and Denis Villeneuve’sDune: Messiah.
And we must dive into The Odyssey from Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan. On Monday, December 22, the first official teaser was released. Its star-studded cast boasts 9 Oscar winners and nominees—including Matt Damon, Anne Hathawayand Charlize Theron—as well as one of Hollywood's favorite power couples: Zendayaand Tom Holland.

MCU fans already have their calendars marked for next December! The Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men all fight against Doctor Doom in the fifth installment of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The star-studded cast includes Chris Hemsworth(Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston(Loki), Florence Pugh(Yelena), Simu Liu(Shang-Chi), Paul Rudd(Ant-Man) and Sebastian Stan(Bucky).
The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday arrived exclusively in theaters on Dec. 19, 2025 and was played before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. It officially confirmed Chris Evans' return to the MCU in the role of Steve Rogers (the original Captain America). In the trailer, he's seen cradling a newborn baby, widely believed to be his child with Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell). And it left no room for doubt: The trailer ends with on-screen text explicitly stating, "Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday."
But that's not all: According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Disney is sending theaters four different trailers for the Marvel mega-movie—each will play for one week, before switching to the next. So, if you see Fire and Ash opening weekend, you’ll get trailer one. If you go a week later, you’ll get trailer two, and so on."

'The Odyssey' out July 17
Rotten Tomatoes simply summed up director Christopher Nolan’s movie adaptation based on the classic poem by Homer: “Odysseus, king of Ithaca, embarks on a perilous journey to return home after the Trojan War.” Matt Damon plays Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland (Telemachus), Anne Hathaway (Penelope), Zendaya (Athena) and many more. Fans expect Oscar winner Nolan to deliver the ultimate “swords and sandals” epic this summer.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir, the film follows science teacher Dr. Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling. He wakes up on a spaceship far from home with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He's told "the sun is dying" and realizes his mission is to solve that problem and save the Earth. The official trailer shows some dark comic elements as well, with Gosling's character joking, "Am I expendable?"
'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'—June 26, 2026
DC Studios enters a new era with what James Gunn describes as a "big science-fiction epic." Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the award-winning comic by Tom King and stars House of the Dragon'sMilly Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. Based on the trailer below, it's most definitely darker than what fans might expect. You'll also get to meet Supergirl's adorable pup, Krypto, and see Jason Momoa's debut as Lobo.
'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' out November 20
Actors Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak are pictured in a still from 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are both set to reprise their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively, in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The prequel visits the world of Panem 24 years before Katniss and Peeta first entered the killing field. It’s been speculated Lawrence and Hutcherson’s famed characters will be part of a flash-forward cameo, and the main cast includes Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin and Elle Fanning.
Woody, Buzz, and the gang are back! Disney/Pixar has teased that the fifth addition of the beloved animated classic centers on the battle of toys versus technology. The characters face competition as their owner, Bonnie, becomes obsessed with her smart tablet screen. Will old-school toys survive? Of course, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as the voices of Woody and Buzz.
'Jumanji' official title TBA, out Dec. 11
One of next year's big holiday releases is set as Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan star in what's rumored to be the final installment of the current Jumanji franchise. While the previous film saw the gang return to the game to rescue Spencer (Alex Wolff), the new chapter is expected to pick up on the shocking cliffhanger where the game's wild animals began leaking into the real world.
On Dec. 20, Director Destin Daniel Cretton announced that filming had officially wrapped on the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In the newest film, Peter Parker (Holland) is trying to live a normal life, only to be interrupted when the villain Mr. Negative (Martin Lee) emerges. Parker must fight Mr. Negative’s control over New York's underworld—as well as his demon-like followers. Holland said the film "really feels like we aren't making the fourth movie. We're making the first movie in the chapter... This is a rebirth. This is something completely new."

'Scream 7' out Feb. 27
“Do you like scarymovies?” Well, you're going to love the trailer for Scream 7, which marks Neve Campbell's long-awaited return as Sidney Prescott in the beloved franchise. This time, the stakes are deeply personal as new Ghostface emerges to terrorize Sid's daughter Tatum (played by 1883'sIsabel May). 'Michael' out April 24
Jaafar Jackson as Michael JacksonFollowing in the hot footsteps of the Freddie Mercury and Elton John biopics of recent years is this big screen dramatization of Michael Jackson’s life. The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jackson's real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson (son of Jermaine Jackson), follows the King of Pop from his childhood with the Jackson Five to his storied solo career.
“I’m humbled and honored to bring my uncle Michael’s story to life,” Jaafar said on Instagram. This trailer set a new record for the most-viewed music biopic teaser when it first debuted in November:
What would 2026 be without a new Star Wars movie? The latest film, directed by Jon Favreau, takes place between the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Mastersof the Universe stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor. The all-star cast includes Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, Idris Elba and Kristen Wiig. 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' out April 3
The upcoming animated adventure comedy film based on the video games is a sequel to the megahit The Super Mario Bros. Movie from 2023. This time, Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt) travels through space with Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) to stop a cosmic threat from Bowser Jr. We'll also meet new characters, including Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as an outer space princess named Rosalina.
Ray Fiennes plays Dr. Ian Kelson, a brilliant but eccentric survivor in the post-apocalyptic horror movie, the fourth film in the 28 Days/Weeks/Years Later franchise. The Bone Temple shows how Spike (Alfie Williams) joins terrifying cult leader Jimmy Crystal’s (Jack O’Connell) killer gang as Britain is destroyed by the Rage Virus. Also, actor Cillian Murphy returns.
'The Death of Robin Hood'—date TBA but expected in 2026
The upcoming thriller stars Hugh Jackman as Robin Hood, who struggles with his past life of crime and murder while receiving care from a mysterious woman after being critically injured. Fans are excited to see the Wolverine actor as a grizzled, reimagined older Robin Hood and set photos revealed he sported lots of facial hair for the role! Jackman told EW, "Robin Hood is a real man in our story. With all the scars, the pain, the regret, and yes, the love."
Because the movie is still in production, no teasers or trailers have been released yet. While you might see "trailers" using clips from previous Hugh Jackman-led movies, these are not real.
Margot Robbie has gone from Barbie to Cathy in the 18th century English moors as the star of this movie based on Emily Bronte’s classic novel. Jacob Elordi plays her doomed lover Heathcliff. Although period movie purists have slammed the casting, Robbie addressed fans through British Vogue, saying of the new adaptation, “Trust me, you’ll be happy.”
Steven Spielberg’s 'Disclosure Day' out Summer 2026
The iconic director is back in his sci-fi wheelhouse this summer with a project about aliens now called DisclosureDay. Fans of Spielberg’s classics Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and War of the Worlds can’t wait!
The movie stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell, but the plot is so far unclear. A teaser for the film shows Blunt apparently playing a meteorologist, an intense car chase, a character saying "we aren't alone," and other sci-fi elements.
