ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Musician Andy Nahas brought holiday cheer to the House of Mercy on Ormond Street by performing a concert Tuesday evening for people experiencing homelessness. Many joined in and sang along to the music.
Nahas has a history of playing concerts for homeless shelters, nursing homes, and special-needs audiences. He said it is a cause that is important to him, especially during the holidays.
“A lot of people here have fallen on hard times temporarily and, you know, a lot of people never thought they would have to be in a shelter,” Nahas said. “And so I’m going to treat this population with respect and we’re all going to have a good time together and put on a show that you or I would go see somewhere else.”
This was the first concert ever held at the House of Mercy. Nahas said he is talking with leaders there about doing more in the future.
