Christmastime being around the corner means that I get my obligatory annual use of Bears receiver DJ Moore’s Grinch-y Christmas cleats from a few years ago.
Don’t worry. I am saving the airing of my Bears Pro Bowl snub grievances (it is Festivus, after all!) in a post after Bullets gets pushed out the door. Episode No. 14 of The BN Bears podcast is OUT. This might be my favorite pod of the year. Between a Bears win against the Packers, Patrick cutting a promo on completion percentage, and Matt delivering a fun Chicago sports comp connecting Caleb Williams and Patrick Kane, there is a lot of fun stuff happening on the most recent installment of the pod. I hope you check it out and enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.A NEW EPISODE OF THE BN BEARS PODCAST IS HERE: Apple | Spotify | YouTube

— NFL (@NFL) December 21, 2025 This is what I imagine Bears GM Ryan Poles envisioned when he inked Sweat to a long-term mega-deal after trading for him in 2023. I think that is the kind of play that Montez can make more often. Clearly, it is something he has in his bag. I’m not sure how we can get that type of explosion more often, but I’d love to see Chicago’s defensive coaches get it out of him. For as much criticism as I’ve seen Montez Sweat get, he currently leads the team in sacks (9.5), tackles-for-loss (13), quarterback hits (16),and forced fumbles (3). His 71.6 overall grade from Pro Football Focus is the best on the team and ranks 40th among 112 edge rushers who have played enough snaps to qualify for the leaderboard. Of course you’d like to see Sweat grade out better. But he is in the top third of players at his position, so he must be doing enough good stuff to land where he is right now. Even still … I think he can be better. And the video above shows how much better he can be. Montez Sweat celebrates after sacking Packers QB Jordan Love at Lambeau Field. Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin Still can’t get enough of the Bears’ Week 16 win against the Green Bay Packers? I can’t blame you. Kevin Fishbain (The Athletic) runs down the 10 bigest moments that happened before the game-winning touchdowns. It is so easy (and understandable) to get caught up in the game-ending play. But so much had to happen before we even made it to that point. Then again, that is one of the things I find so beautiful about football. There is so much that happens on every play. Every game comes down to micro decisions and moments that are all impossible to predict because no one knows what will (or can) happen when the oblong ball gets put into play. I’m no special teams guru, so I appreciate the breakdown here from Adam Hoge:The #Bears onside kick recovery against the #Packers was NOT an accident. Richard Hightower used a “bunch” formation with his cover guys. Good plan. Good kick. Little bit of luck. Bears ball. pic.twitter.com/uZQshZc9J0
— Adam Hoge (@AdamHoge) December 22, 2025 Do you remember when the Bears special teams unit was a disaster? Missed kicks, blown coverages, missed tackles, and other misplays felt like they were happening on a regular basis. It seems like Chicago’s football team has cleaned it up since the Bengals game when things appeared to be hitting rock bottom. Let’s give credit where it’s due with Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower. But also, we’ve seen guys have some positive regression to the mean. Between the performances of Cairo Santos (86 percent success rate on field goals since the Cincy game) and Josh Blackwell (he’s got a case for another NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award), the Bears have good things happening with this unit. Yikes! In addition to quarterback Jordan Love being in concussion protocol, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports that backup QB Malik Willis is dealing with a shoulder injury. Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson acknowledges (via Sun-Times reporter Jason Lieser) that Austin Booker’s hit on Love was “100% a penalty” … but it is tough to coach because it is “a bang-bang play.” That was the point I was trying to get across in Bullets the other day. Was it a penalty? Yes. Was it dirty? Nah. As a big Star Wars fan, I love that someone made this:pic.twitter.com/oqX46V83na
— Ghost Mugs Halas ?⬇️ (@Nickdabearfan) December 21, 2025 The best thing I read yesterday (outside of the BN realm) was this post from Ricky O’Donnell, who writes about how Saturday’s dagger thrown by quarterback Caleb Williams gave the Bears more than a win. That throw was an absolute narrative-changer. It feels weird to be on this side of things after watching Packers QBs make those throws against Chicago’s football team for pretty much three decades.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
