ALBANY, N.Y. — Applications are now open for volunteer fire departments looking to use New York State capital grants to upgrade their facilities and equipment.
Right now, $20 million is available to fund construction, renovation, or facility purchase projects for any spaces that firefighters use. There’s also $5 million available to buy equipment, including for protection, communication, and training. Fire departments can learn how to apply this link. The deadline is Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
The state awarded its first round of grants back in October of 2024 to 88 different fire departments. The state says the grants aim to ensure that fire stations and training facilities are safe and meet all building codes. The grants also aim to support fire departments if they’re looking to expand beyond their jurisdictional boundaries.
The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services administers the grants.
