Mariners Signing Outfielder Rob Refsnyder

There was a time when Rob Refsnyder was looking like a really good right-handed-hitting 4th outfielder/bench option for the Cubs, whose middle of the lineup might otherwise skew a little lefty-heavy in 2026 (at least in terms of the side where a lot of the production comes).

But after the Tyler Austin signing, it seemed like the Cubs had probably found their righty bopper – even announcing him as an infielder and an outfielder, even though he hasn’t played the latter in years – and that seems all the more assured now that Refsnyder has gone elsewhere:

Free agent Rob Refsnyder has agreed to a one-year, $6.25 million contract with the Mariners. Deal includes $250K in incentives. First with agreement: @JeffPassan

Refsnyder, 34, has really mashed lefties the last couple years, and plays capable outfield corner defense. Nice guy to have, and the Mariners pay a relatively high price to get him as a bench piece (Austin, for what it’s worth, cost only $1.25 million, but it’s far less certain that he’ll be able to hit MLB pitching).
