The Blackhawks were off yesterday, things are bad here, and the Blackhawks don’t play again until tomorrow. So I want to start our Monday with some respect for an all-time great making history on Sunday. Sidney Crosby had two points on Sunday. The second, an assist on a power-play goal by Rickard Rakell at 12:40 of the first period, gave him 1,724 points (645 goals, 1,079 assists).
That’s one point more than Mario Lemieux, and now the most points in Pittsburgh Penguins history.
Hockey is an amazing sport. There are so many reasons we watch and play the game. And it’s worth acknowledging when history is made. Crosby has been one of one. He’s lived up to every ounce of the hype that proceeded him into the NHL — something we can appreciate more now as we watch Connor Bedard try to follow that model with the Blackhawks. So sticktaps to Crosby for a remarkable moment in a legendary career.

— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) December 22, 2025 I really like this perspective from Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times on the next steps of Nick Lardis‘ development. I don’t think many Blackhawks fans would point to Luke Evangelista as a comp, but it’s an intriguing match. And Pope does a good job of laying out the layers of it. His comments about how Lardis can transition a successful CHL career to a brief but fairly successful run in the AHL to sticking as an impact player in the NHL are worth reading. What does the future hold for Nick Lardis with the Blackhawks?Nashville's Luke Evangelista offers some clues."Learning to be consistent and maintain that kind of production throughout a full pro season is going to be big for him."New story: t.co/KlDx2mxFaj
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) December 21, 2025 Nice read here from Scott Powers at The Athletic on the helium under Václav Nestrašil in the Blackhawks’ pipeline right now. He’ll be a guy to watch at the World Juniors later this week and thru that tournament for sure.Václav Nestrašil was thought to be somewhat of a project draft pick for the Blackhawks and someone who might need time to transition to college hockey. He still needs to develop, but he's already further along than expected.A breakdown of Nestrašil t.co/Pf8KFvhdHL
— Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) December 22, 2025 Speaking of Nestrašil, Corey Pronman and Scott Wheeler at The Athletic ranked the top 25 prospects (drafted and not-yet-drafted) in the upcoming World Juniors. They have Blackhawks prospect Anton Frondell (Sweden) at No. 11. There is no mention of Nestrašil (which is both surprising and disappointing) or AJ Spellacy for the US. Here’s what they wrote about Frondell:Frondell is a versatile offensive threat who blends smooth puck skills with a lethal shot that can beat goalies from range. He projects as a top-six center who can finish plays or set up teammates, while offering a strong physical presence that allows him to compete in the hard areas.
Finally, there was a PWHL game in Rosemont on Sunday. The reviews were mixed — attendance wasn’t as good as they would have wanted (but maybe doing it in Rosemont on a Sunday before Christmas was a big factor?) but the game was fun. Here are Kalen Lumpkins’ thoughts on the game.Well, that was fun. The PWHL made a stop at Allstate Arena for the first time, and neither the energy nor the game itself disappointed. Did Chicago do enough to earn a PWHL franchise in the future? More from today’s Frost vs. Charge in Rosemont t.co/01PPKYO3S7
