It all came down to the final three – Adam Sanders, Cassidy Daniels and Channing Wilson – on The Road on Sunday night at the historic Ryman Auditorium. But when the vote was tallied, it was Adam Sanders who walked away with the grand prize: a slot at Stagecoach, a recording contract and $250,000.
So many contestants on singing competitions never get the breakthrough success of Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. But Adam feels that what makes his chances better is that The Road featured artists that were already polished to some degree and ready for the next level, with their own original songs and lots of stage time, lots of stage presence.

“I’ve said from the beginning, and I think that Cassidy and Channing are both examples of this. That we’re just a moment away in our careers to get to the next level, and I feel like this singing competition show was just able to put a spotlight on what we’ve already built, so that the rest of the world can see that it’s ready for the next level,” Adam told Parade. “And so I think that we all stand a really good chance of pushing our careers to the next level because this is just a whole other level of marketing and exposure that we haven’t had in our careers yet.”
The interesting twist to The Road, since it was all filmed prior to airing on CB,S is that the voting took place in a different city each week with a completely different audience, so the fact that Adam, Cassidy and Channing continuously wound up in the Top 3 meant that they were able to attract different audiences at each performance. It wasn’t as if they were able to build up a fan following.
“I think for me it was being strategic in the certain songs you played when and where, and I think that Cassidy and Channing both did great jobs of pivoting at certain moments when they had a thought of playing a certain song and then at the last minute said, ‘No, I think that I’m going to go with my gut here and change this, or change that,' or stick with what they felt like was the right thing for them,” Adam explained their success.
“We had to play with the rules that were given, which were [that] we were only playing two songs, we were playing cut-down versions of those two songs. We couldn’t necessarily pick the order of the two songs. So, there were a lot of things that really handcuffed us, and I think that the three people that probably spent the most time being strategic and thinking about how to navigate each show the right way to get to the next level is the three that ended up being at the end of the show. It was really just taking who you are as an artist, trying to find a way to get your message across, but also trying to figure out how to survive week after week depending on the market.”
Adam is no stranger to success in country music, but it’s mainly been behind the scenes as a songwriter. He co-wrote the No. 1 songs "Hell of a Night" for Dustin Lynch and "Ain't Worth the Whiskey" for Cole Swindell, and other songs of his have been recorded by Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and Blake Shelton, but now he wants to be the one on stage connecting to his audience.
“On Monday, I will wake up and get right back to work,” he says. I think that we all know that it’s good to celebrate the victories in our own individual careers, but you can’t stop, you can’t say, ‘Oh, I’ve made it now.’ I think this is where the real work begins, and to be able to try to capitalize as much as we can off of these moments and this exposure that we’re getting, whether that’s through recording new songs, writing, or social media content, it never ends.”
Despite being named “one of Music Row’s hottest young songwriters” by American Songwriter and signing a publishing deal with Liz Rose Music in 2024, didn't dissuade Adam from wanting to record his own songs. He has recorded seven over the past year, including “What If I’m Right,” “The Highway,” “Nothin’ To Do But Drink” and “Somewhere You Don’t Go.”
“I would like to go back in and record seven more and compile them into an album,” Adam shared. “Obviously, we’re still in the very early stages of what the next chapter of my career will look like, but I think that I just want to focus on the things that I can control right now, which is trying to continue to write and find the best songs and trying to grow my audience as much as I can from the fire that the show has lit.”
