Florida head coach Jon Sumrall announced on Friday that his father, George, passed away the night before in their family home.
Sumrall shared a message on social media honoring his father’s memory. Sumrall said his mother was able to be with his father when he passed, and he shared his appreciation that his father was able to be in attendance for his introductory press conference in Gainesville earlier this month.
“God gave us more time with my Dad than we thought we would get,” Sumrall wrote. “Dad was a fighter. I learned so much from him… being a man of faith, grit, hard work, attitude, service and more.
“… He was always there for me and I know he still will be watching! It doesn’t get sweeter or tougher than my Mom! Mom and Dad have set a great example for Ginny and I on marriage, parenting and commitment. Love you always Dad!”
