Fast break
Why the Buffs won: They were able to overcome a season high-tying 24 turnovers by playing good defense, dominating the paint and forcing 23 UNC turnovers. CU outscored the Bears 46-32 in the paint and outrebounded them 37-25.
Three stars:
1. Logyn Greer: The freshman led all players with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while also pulling down six rebounds and blocking a shot.
2. Jade Masogayo: Posted 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, five rebounds and three assists.
3. Desiree Wooten: Finished with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, a block and a steal.
Up next: CU will begin Big 12 play with a trip to Arizona State on Sunday (5 p.m. MT, ESPN+).

How the Buffaloes responded to that start was more to head coach JR Payne’s liking.
CU overcame a sluggish start – and 24 turnovers – to roll past Northern Colorado, 79-62, at the CU Events Center.
“I’m really proud of our team,” Payne said. “Definitely the turnovers were not what we wanted them to be, but almost in every other statistical category it was really good. Like, excellent rebounding, we defended really well, lots of steals, lots of great balance on the offensive, scoring; lots of balance on the rebounding. I thought overall a great showing for our final game (of nonconference).”
Freshman Logyn Greer, senior Jade Masogayo and junior Desiree Wooten combined for 51 points to spark the Buffs (9-3) to their fourth straight win as they wrapped up nonconference play.
The Buffs led 14-11 after one quarter, but quickly fell behind 15-14 early in the second.
Masogayo and Greer got the Buffs going after that, combining for the first nine points of a 14-0 surge that bumped the lead to 28-15.
“From the beginning of the first quarter, I just thought that we were really unorganized,” said Masogayo, who had 17 points. “It was kind of chaotic and so we just really had to clean that up. We talked about that on the bench so that’s what we did.”
Zyanna Walker then had five points to cap an 11-0 run late in the second quarter that pushed the lead to 40-19. Overall, CU outscored the Bears 26-11 in the second quarter and held them without a field goal in the final 5:13.
“The second quarter I thought was everything we needed, and everything we wanted,” Payne said. “We wanted to play fast and we wanted to be able to create some offense with our defense and things like that. It just took us a little while to get going and kind of get to the style we want to play.”
After the big run to start the second quarter, CU was never really threatened and led by as many as 25. But, UNC took advantage of some sloppy play in the fourth quarter to cut the Buffs’ lead to 15 on a few occasions.
Neenah George and Gabi Fields each scored 13 points to lead the Bears (8-3). CU’s defense locked up the Bears most of the night, though.
“I just think as much as you take pride in offense, you want to take pride in defense because sometimes, well most of the time, your defense wins the game,” said Wooten, who had 16 points and one of CU’s 10 steals. “You’ve got to stop them from scoring. So, just play both sides of the floor mainly.”
