Idleb, Dec. 16 (SANA) Internal Security Forces, in coordination with General Intelligence Service, have arrested eight members of an ISIS-linked cell accused of carrying out multiple attacks on security and military personnel in northern Syria, authorities said Tuesday.
The arrests followed an investigation into a recent attack on a highway security patrol in the Maaret al-Numan area, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. Intelligence-led operations allowed security forces to identify the suspects and the vehicle used in the assault.
Three suspects were initially detained and one was killed, while subsequent interrogations revealed the involvement of additional accomplices. A second operation led to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
Authorities said the group was responsible for attacks on security patrols in Idleb, Defense Ministry personnel near Saraqeb, and customs officers in the Aleppo countryside.
Security forces also seized explosive belts, silencers, rockets and assault rifles intended for use in further attacks, the ministry added.
