On Tuesday morning, Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas dropped a new edition of their “32 Thoughts” podcast that is highlighted by an interview with Blackhawks forwards Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar after the Blackhawks arrived in Toronto on Monday. The conversation started around 10:15 into the episode.
Bedard traveled with the team for their three-game swing in Canada. The first question, obviously, went to Bedard about his injury.
“It’s a shoulder thing,” Bedard said to open the interview. “But it’s feeling pretty good, so just kinda starting that rehab process and I hope to be back as soon as possible.”
(As an aside, Kevin Weekes tweeted on Tuesday morning that he’s hearing it’s a shoulder separation. That felt like the likely assumption when the Blackhawks said it would be a couple weeks before he was re-evaluated.)
They talk about playing better hockey this season; Bedard once again said the vibes changed when the young guys started to take over the lineup. Nazar said the energy in the room and the ice is great with the youth movement, noting that guys like Oliver Moore are always chirping.
Moore is going to hear it after this episode makes the rounds with the team because they chirp him pretty hard. I can say the energy he has all the time that they talk about is noticeable in the room as well.
They talk about their approach to talking in the room and leadership. And how they appreciate the opportunity they both have to be in the NHL their ability to inspire a next generation of kids to love the game.
I like where Friedman and Bukauskas ask Bedard to make the case for the USA to take Nazar to the Olympics and Nazar to make the case for Bedard to play for Canada.
