The Powerball jackpot is still up for grabs after no ticket matched the six winning numbers in Monday’s drawing, with the grand prize total topping $1 billion.
According to Powerball.com, the winning numbers in Monday night’s drawing were 23, 35, 59, 63 and 68, with a Powerball of 2. No one hit the jackpot or scored a Powerplay, Powerball showed, though two winning tickets sold in Arizona and California matched five numbers to win $1 million each.
The next drawing is set for Wednesday at 9:59 p.m. CT, and the jackpot could continue to grow until then. As of early Tuesday, the estimated prize was at $1.25 billion, with a cash value lump sum of $572.1 million.
Wednesday’s jackpot stands to be the second-largest Powerball prize this year, organizers said. It comes after another billion dollar jackpot was won in September, with tickets in Missouri and Texas splitting the grand prize of $1.787 billion.
“Powerball has only seen back-to-back to billion-dollar jackpots twice, and this one has arrived just in time for the holidays,” Iowa Lottery CEO and Powerball Product Group Chair Matt Strawn said in a release.
Strawn added that although there was no jackpot winner, the game still encourages players to check their tickets to see if they won smaller prizes. According to the Illinois Lottery, more than 100 people won $100 in Monday’s drawing.
According to the game, the only other time the Powerball generated back-to-back billion-dollar jackpots was in 2023, when a $1.08 billion jackpot was won on July 19, followed by a $1.765 billion jackpot won on Oct. 11. Both jackpots were won by players in California, the release said.
If a player wins Wednesday’s jackpot, they can choose between an annuitized prize paid each year at an estimated at $1.25 billion, or a lump sum payment estimated at $572.1 million. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5-percent each year, according to officials.
Both prize options are before taxes, Powerball said.
A Powerball ticket costs $2 per play. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, Powerball said, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
