The Chicago Blackhawks have been dealt a tough injury blow this week, as Connor Bedard was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Bedard suffered the injury in Friday’s loss to the St. Louis Blues, grabbing at his right shoulder in the closing seconds of that defeat.
Head coach Jeff Blashill told reporters the injury was a “freak accident,” and that the star forward would be re-evaluated in the new year.
Bedard has had a stellar season so far for the Blackhawks, with 19 goals and 25 assists in 31 games. He also has three game-winning goals for the Blackhawks and has netted five power play goals on the year.
In 181 career NHL games, Bedard has 64 goals and 108 assists for Chicago.
In corresponding roster moves, the Blackhawks have recalled defenseman Ethan Del Mastro and goaltender Laurent Brossoit from the Rockford IceHogs.
The Blackhawks’ next game will take place Tuesday night as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. That game will start at 6 p.m. Central, and will air on CHSN.
